As a child of nine, I sang my first solo at Nicholasville Baptist Church. I felt singing was God's special gift to me and had an urgency to use this gift to the fullest. Through the years I have sung with several groups and choirs, and for the last 35+ years, The Waymakers. It is a joy to serve with these folks including Jon, my husband of forty years. When I'm not singing, I enjoy retired life, traveling and spending fun times with my two granddaughters.
I grew up listening to my dad sing at Parkway Baptist Church in Lexington. My musical journey didn't start till years later when I joined the choir with my dad. An adult ensemble had been formed and there was an opening for an alto. I was asked to come and practice with them and so began my journey with the Waymakers.

I can't believe it's been almost 40 years serving the Lord through this ministry. Now I sing in the choir at Porter Memorial Baptist and teach a ladies life group. I love going on mission trips and traveling to be with my family in Texas and Florida. If I look familiar, you've probably seen me at the Lexington LifeWay Christian Store where I have worked for 20 years.

This verse has become my life line. I reminds me that I am NOT alone at anytime or any place...even when I am on stage singing. You see, just a few short years ago, if someone had told me that I would be a member of a group, standing on stage and singing with a microphone, I would have laughed at them. Although, I still struggle with fear, I always feel God's hand holding mine.
Having raised three children along with my husband of more than 40 yers, I now have a better understanding of a parent's love for their children, and yet...that love doesn't even compare to the love that my heavenly father has for ME!!!
I am SO thankful and blessed for the love and mercy God continues to show me, my husband, our children and eight grand children!

Rhonda has sung Soprano for The Waymakers since its beginning, 40 years ago. She grew up on a small farm in East Tennessee where the church and music were always an important part of her life. Rhonda's Dad was the Song Leader and her sister was the pianist of the local church. She started piano lessons at an early age to be the backup pianist for her sister, but found that she enjoyed singing more than being an accompanist. Rhonda sang in the church with her family and continued to love gospel music. She studied voice and piano at Lee University in Cleveland, TN, under some wonderful professors. North Cleveland Baptist Church became her home church where she sang in the choir and as part of the vocal ensemble. She met her husband Tony there and was married in 1978. The new couple moved to Lexington, KY, to take a job with IBM. They quickly became members of Parkway Baptist Church in Lexington where a brand new ensemble was formed which was to become The Waymakers. Forty years later we are still singing gospel music and enjoy worshipping with our brothers and sisters in Christ as we travel and share the love of Christ.
Tony and Rhonda live on a farm in Lexington, KY, and have one daughter, Karen, a son-in-law, Chad, and one granddaughter, Lauren. They are currently members at Hillcrest Baptist Church where Tony has been pastor and Rhonda has been the Children's Director for 20 years.
